announcing the pkgsrc-2024Q2 branch

The pkgsrc developers are proud to announce the 83rd quarterly release of pkgsrc, the cross-platform packaging system. pkgsrc contains over 29,000 packages, with varying support across 23 distinct operating systems. More information on pkgsrc itself is available at https://www.pkgsrc.org/ Since the pkgsrc-2024Q1 release, 203 packages were added, 1742 packages were updated (with 2586 updates), including language-specific updates: 37 Go, 131 Haskell, 70 Perl, 8 PHP, 802 Python, 227 Ruby. 124 packages were removed. For the 2024Q2 release we welcome the following notable package additions: - amarok 3.0.0 - kf6 (KDE Frameworks 6) - syncstorage-rs 0.17.0 We welcome the following notable updates: - Asterisk 21.2.0 - boost 1.85.0 - CMake 3.29.6 - Firefox 126.0 - ffmpeg 7.0 - ghc 9.8.2 - icewm 3.5.0 - matrix-synapse 1.109.0 - nginx 1.26.1 - NodeJS 22.3.0 - postfix 3.9.0n - qgis 3.34.7 - Rust 1.76.0 - SQLite 3.46.0 - Unifi 8.2.93 - xz 5.6.2 As always, many packages have been brought up to date relative to upstream micro releases. Examples include: - Firefox (ESR) 115.12.0 - Go 1.21.11, 1.22.4 - MariaDB 10.5.24, 10.6.17, 10.11.7 - Nextcloud 28.0.6 - NodeJS 18.20.3, 20.14.0 - PHP 8.1.29, 8.3.8, 8.2.20 - PostgreSQL 12.19, 13.15, 14.12, 15.7, 16.3 - Python 3.11.9, 3.12.4 - Qt6 6.7.1 - Thunderbird 115.7.0 This branch we say notable goodbyes to: - a number of packages for python 2.7, as no longer needed/useful - Thunderbird 52, 68, 78 Changes to the pkgsrc infrastructure and notes: - the default version of emacs was updated to 29 - Go version? - The Rust project releases new versions very frequently. These require the immediately previous version to build, and have increasingly been difficult on minority platforms. This branch of pkgsrc contains 1.76.0, while 1.79.0 is current. Users of pkgsrc on other than dominant platforms are cautioned that except on dominant platforms, programs depending on rust may be difficult to build.
